EEPliant 2

Building on the work carried out in EEPLIANT (2014), this project, which is funded by the EU and coordinated by PROSAFE, aims to implement the economic and environmental benefits outlined in the Energy Labelling and Ecodesign Directives through increased compliance with energy efficiency requirements.

The project sets out the framework and best practices for conducting market surveillance activities, sets out the product categories that market surveillance activities will occur on, and involves the cooperation of Market Surveillance Authorities (MSA’s) across Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, and Sweden.

These 15 member states monitor and verify the energy efficiency of energy-related products and enforce the EU Energy Labelling Regulations and the Ecodesign Directive. Participating member states will review the energy labels and technical documents of individual products in order to verify the efficiency claims made by manufacturers and retailers. Where product  may be non-compliant, the MSA’s will work with manufacturers and suppliers in order to bring the products into compliance with the relevant regulation or use enforcement measures if necessary, ensuring consumer confidence in the product information.

The results of the market surveillance activities are shared between member states and with the European Commission, so that this information can be used to ensure product compliance across the wider European community.

EEPliant2 began in September 2017 and covers the following product categories; domestic and professional refrigeration, network standby, LED lighting, printers, and heaters. Miltcon Services Ltd. will continue to support the SEAI in its market surveillance activities for the duration of the project.
